10 Places to Eat Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia

Rasa Rasa
59, Chulia Street

This is by far one of the absolute best places to get Nasi Lemak in Georgetown. We tried their traditional Nasi Lemak with a fried egg as well as their Nasi Lemak that came with a type of chicken sausage that was really delicious.

Il Bacaro
106, Campbell Street

Il Bacaro is a great spot for those looking to get their comfort food fix. This is an Italian style restaurant that did not disappoint with anything that we tried.
We highly recommend trying their Mango Tango and NutMeg Cooler mocktail. They were absolutely delicious. When it comes to food we definitely recommend there Inferno Nero Pizza and Rigatoni Cacio Pepe su Salsa Genovese.

New Lane Street Food Stalls
Lorong Baru x Macalister Street
(on the corner)

The New Lane Street Food Stalls are a perfect stop for anyone looking for some amazing variety in their Georgetown Penang street food. We tried the Hockkein Mee, Chee Cheong Fun, and Apom Manis while we were there and highly recommend you do the same if you are visiting the area.

Gurney Food Hall
170, Gurney Drive (4th Floor)

Located inside the Gurney Plaza Mall, we highly recommend making a stop to the Food Hall. Inside you will find many different food options from Malay, Thai, to Western style options. We personally tried their Nasi Lemak with added Chicken and we highly recommend it! It was quite good and pretty affordable as well.

Love A Loaf
C-1-1, Tropicana 218, Macalister Street

There are a few Love A Loaf locations in the city, but this is the one we specifically went to. We highly recommend trying their French Garlic Slice. It is a delicious bread filled is SO MUCH garlic that it makes your mouth water just thinking about it. There is also ham inside this which makes a perfect addition to this delicious snack.

The Postcard
57, Chulia Street

Located right next to Rasa Rasa, this is a delicious and adorable place to get your coffee and other beverage needs filled. Step inside and you will find some great post cards to send to those you love as well as some beautiful plants, vintage pieces, and maybe even the adorable shop kitty. We got their Americano and Mocha coffees and really enjoyed both.

Yeap Noodles
227, Chulia Street

Step inside this amazing little restaurant for the best noodles we had during our stay in Malaysia. We highly recommend their Dry Spicy Yeap Noodles (if you can handle your spice!) and their Dry Wan Tan BBQ Pork Yeap Noodles - YUM!

Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay
Masjid Street, off of Chulia Street

Step back in time with this amazing Nyonya Koay establishment that has been around since 1933! We highly recommend trying a bit of everything on the menu but our personal favorites were the Kuih Koci (Glutinous Rice Flour, Coconut, Gula Melaka) and the Sri Muka (Pandan, Glutinous Rice).

Femes Coconut Shake
461, Penang Road

Femes is, by far, our favorite place to get coconut shakes in Georgetown. We recommend trying the Coconut Shake Strawberry and the Coconut Shake Chocolate with Oreo! These are our personal favorites and we had them easily 3 or 4 times while we were in Georgetown. You can also easily order these through Grab for delivery and every time we did this it was a great experience.

Restoran Kapitan
93, Chulia Street

Kapitan is one of the best places to get Indian food in the area. We tried their Chicken Tikkan Butter Masala, their Beef Briyani Claypot, and their Chicken Tikka Kebob Special and they were all delicious. We also highly recommend getting their Watermelon Juice and Garlic Cheese Naan - YUM!

BONUS - Sugar Cane Juice

We were not able to locate exactly where we found the sugar cane juice in this video. (below) However, if you see a vendor anywhere in Penang making this from scratch, be sure to try it. It’s sweet, cold, and delicious - The perfect thing on a hot day!
